Job Shadow

  Job Shadow Kick Off
Job Shadow is an academically motivating activity designed to give kids the unique opportunity of an up-close look at the world of work and provide the answer to the commonly asked question, “Why do I have to learn this?” Beginning with a nationwide kickoff on February 2, 2009, and continuing throughout the school year, students across America will “shadow” workplace mentors as they go through a normal day on the job. The program invites students to see firsthand how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace. Job Shadow 2009 is led by the National Job Shadow Coalition.
   

Special Olympics World Winter Games Idaho USA

Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Special Olympics currently serves 2.8 million people with intellectual disabilities in more than 200 programs in 180 countries.

   

20th Annual National Service-Learning Conference

Growing hope, Cultivating Change
NYLC and Volunteer Tennessee invite you to join us in Nashville, Tennessee for The 20th Annual National Service-Learning Conference at the Nashville Convention Center, March 18-21, 2009! The conference is the largest gathering of youths and practitioners involved in the service-learning movement, drawing approximately 2,700 attendees from across the United States and at least 20 other countries each year. Through three days of general sessions, featured forums, and service-learning projects, the conference engages participants in local, national, and global issues that service-learning addresses. It provides networking opportunities with service-learning leaders through more than 150 experiential workshops, receptions, and informal meetings.

  Brightest Stars Awards Ceremony
The Brightest Stars Awards were established in 2001 by Governor Dirk Kempthorne and the Governor's Coordinating Council for Families and Children (GCCFC), in partnership with the Association of Idaho Cities (AIC) and Serve Idaho to recognize the "unsung heroes" who work tirelessly on behalf of families and children in their communities. The purpose of the Brightest Stars Awards is to encourage and affirm active participation by citizens of all ages. More information coming soon

National Preparedness Month

Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be informed and Get involved
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. The goal of the month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action. Throughout September, Homeland Security will work with a wide variety of organizations, including local, state and federal government agencies and the private sector, to highlight the importance of family emergency preparedness and promote individual involvement through events and activities across the nation.
